IDEALS-AGEISS JV Performs Riparian Habitat Restoration for the International Boundary and Water Commission

IDEALS-AGEISS is restoring Rio Grande river habitat on 70 acres in New Mexico and Texas. We are helping the government address the effects of historic flood control projects. The restoration project will enhance river-floodplain hydrologic connectivity, reduce exotic vegetation, restore endangered species habitat, and reestablish riparian habitat.

Previously, IDEALS-AGEISS conducted a survey that documented potential habitat of protected species along 105 miles of the Rio Grande. We assisted in updating a biological assessment along the flood control project area. Now our biological monitoring and restoration teams will restore healthy riparian function and enhance natural riverine processes in compliance with a US Fish and Wildlife Service biological opinion and the International Boundary and Water Commission’s river management plan.
